The seven major components of logistics

Seven major components: transportation, warehousing, packaging, handling and loading/unloading, distribution processing, delivery, and related logistics information management.

1. Transportation

The logistical activity of using facilities and tools to move goods from one point to another.

2. Inventory

Inventory Control: Logistical operational activities that involve the classification, management, and control of inventory quantities and structures.

3. Packaging

Packaging refers to the collective term for containers, materials, and auxiliaries used to protect products, facilitate storage and transportation, and promote sales during the distribution process, in accordance with certain technical specifications. It also refers to the operational activities involving the application of certain technical methods in the process of using containers, materials, and auxiliaries to achieve the aforementioned purposes.

4. Handling

Handling is a logistical operation primarily involving the horizontal movement of goods within the same location. It is carried out to meet the needs of transporting and storing products.

5. Distribution Processing

Distribution Processing is the collective term for simple operations such as packaging, dividing, measuring, sorting, marking, labeling, and assembling that are applied to goods as needed during the process from the production site to the point of use.

6. Information Management

The collection and processing of information related to logistics plans, forecasts, dynamic information, as well as information concerning production, markets, costs, etc., to ensure that logistical activities can be carried out effectively and smoothly.
